Plot summary: With only three weeks left in his three year contract, Sam Bell is getting anxious to finally return to Earth. Direct communication with Earth is not possible due to a long-standing communication malfunction but he does get an occasional message from his wife Tess. Unbelievable.. the whole film from beginning to end is an absolute masterpiece! (We all want to live, no matter what the curcumstances.) =P
Some say the film starts slowly, but i found the first half hour to be an important portrayal of what it would mean to be alone in space.
Sam Rockwell did one heck of a job in this movie! He should have been nominated for an Academy Award and the movie for all the other attending awards. Pity. Too bad it's a thinking person's movie.. =P

Movie Review: The Lovely Bones

*-&- I Love It..! It's poignant, gripping, emotionally alive and gorgeous. Though i feel i have to warn everyone who hasn't yet seen this film, that it's very distressing! I seriously never cry at films, EVER! I now know why you can 'never say never' in the end lol.. Since i cried all the way through. My tears never stopped, my face burned, i got dizzy and lightheaded (+ very heavy hearted) very quickly.. *bows head in shame* I got so encased in the film like no other film before.

It's weird isn't it? When you think you'll never find a romantic comedy funny or get angry with a film, get energetic from the adrenaline (or without shame weep over portrayed heartbreak) that's when you kick yourself in the teeth because 'that random pick of a film' broke you down and made you laugh, made you cry in the end.

'The Lovely Bones' broke my heart, it's my new tear jerker. Replacing my only other one in a million weepy film 'My Dog Skip'. Now don't laugh, i have a good reason, I'm a dog lover... (it's a animal thing) lol XP Please if you haven't had a chance to watch this film yet, you might get a surprise as it may 'haunt' you a little afterwards... :)

Is there a filmmaker in history who’s made four bigger back-to-back movies than Peter Jackson? Fellowship, Two Towers, King, Kong… that’s a total of 30 words in the full titles, 745 minutes in running time (883 if we’re talking the extended cuts), $1.3bn at the box office and more spectacle, CG extras and horizon-stretching battles than a T-Rex could shake an Oliphant at.

So how’s this for a change of pace: an intimate family drama set in a small American town (one street, primarily) and faultlessly recreating the early ‘70s. It’s a lost world but there’s not a dinosaur in sight – though a beast does live across the street and Jackson gets to flex the fantasy once more by visualising a land so vast and fertile it makes Middle-earth look like a disused parking lot. Welcome to heaven.

Confused? Then you haven’t read Alice Sebold’s 2002 bestseller The Lovely Bones, to which Jackson and partners Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens cleave faithfully but not, wisely, reverentially. It tells the imaginative, heartfelt tale of Susie Salmon (“like the fish”), a 14-year-old who is raped and killed by Mr Harvey, her inconspicuous neighbour. Only she’s not ready to die, instead loitering around the gateway to the afterlife and peering back over her shoulder as the murder investigation unfurls below.

Sensitively cast - Mark Wahlberg and Rachel Weisz as Susie’s parents, Susan Sarandon as vulgar Grandma, a bewigged, bespectacled Stanley Tucci as Harvey and Atonement’s Saoirse Ronan as poor, hurting Susie – Lovely Bones is a touching, at times distressing film. It deals with loss, grief, rage, familial breakdown and love, most of all love. But it’s also energetic and entertaining, the camera already moving whenever Jackson cuts into a scene and the horror/thriller elements given just enough fizz to recall the director’s early genre forays (minus the splatter) but not so comic book as to undercut the drama.

The Lovely Bones, both book and film, opens with a close-up image of a snowman trapped in a snow globe. The image reverberates around the entire movie. From Susie Salmon sitting on her heavenly gazebo narrating her own life following her brutal murder, to her father Jack (Wahlberg, good hair) building intricate model ships inside delicate bottles to her mother Abigail (Weisz) keeping Susie’s room in pristine untouched condition to her killer George Harvey (a terrific, meticulous, barely recognisable Tucci) carefully tending to his miniature doll house, these are characters looking to build ideal worlds but who eventually become ensnared by them, unable to move on, tethered by their pain. If this makes Lovely Bones sound like a draining downer, it shouldn’t: it is poignant, gripping, emotionally alive (but never sentimental) and gorgeous. All this from the man who brought you Meet The Feebles.

With its heady teen protagonist and themes of murder intertwined with the fantastical, on paper this felt like Jackson returning to the intimate, small-scale milieu of Heavenly Creatures (the fascination with the afterlife connecting with the real world also touches base with Jackson’s forgotten flick The Frighteners). Eschewing Sebold’s almost comic vision of the afterlife as a kitsch heavenly high school, Jackson’s vision of “the in-between”, a holding pen between Earth and Heaven, is a cornucopia of digitally enhanced vistas, flower iconography, quickly shifting landscapes and startling memorable images: a horrific bathroom vignette, a fleet of ships in bottles bobbing on a sea, a gazebo planted firmly in the middle of a midnight lake with the moon as a clock.

It defies most conventions and it defies most categories too. It is part ghost story, part romance and part murder mystery.

Intergalactical Frisbee: Review
Deathwatch, i liked this film. It was quirky, had a sting in the tale and had a cast of excellent characters, from a young and innocent Private who tries to understand the horrors of war, a man about to loose his faith in God, a solider who wants to survive the war with the minimum of guilt, a dying teenager, shot in the spine and unaware of the horrors to come and to a psychotic solider who will kill anyone, friend or foe. Add to this a German soldier, played with sinister and frightening conviction by unknown actor, Roman Horak and you have a film that you don't want to watch on your own!

I loved this movie, so I'm a little angry about everyone trashing it without understanding it. For anyone who has watched it and is wondering, what the f*** I invite you to look at the tagline. "Deliver them from evil." What does that suggest to you? Could it have religious significance? What do the cast say of what is stalking them? "Its Death!" The film is in fact a bloody good horror film set in WWI but it is also a religious tale in as much as the trench is Purgatory and every man jack of that squad is already dead. (Everyone see's hell as the thing they are most afraid of, and in these soldiers case what terrified them most was the war. So the trench is their Purgatory, yes?).

I finished watching this movie and thought to myself "Damn that's clever!" I mean, not to spoil the film for anyone, but it ends with all but one of the group sat around a fire in the deepest darkest depths while the star runs away from them and climbs up into the light and the mist. If there this were to be a clearer heaven and hell metaphor they'd have to hammer it into your head with a shovel. As to the dark eyed German soldier calmly waiting for the next group of unfortunates to judge... give him a cowl and a sycthe somebody? Enjoy this for the brilliant story telling and true art of in depth horror.

28 Days Later is a great film about a blood-borne virus that has horrifying psychological and physical side effects. It is about the human will to survive at all costs. It is about what each and every one of us could become if we were to leave our rage unchecked. In case you may not have been paying attention, though, it is not about zombies. These aren't the slow zombies that George A. Romero presented to us.. Oh no, these things aren't coming out of there coffins and death beds, there human and very much alive, i assure you. They're called 'the infected' here in Danny Boyle's breathtaking vision of a Britain crippled buy infection.

The virus is 'rage', it's passed though the blood, any slight nip, scratch, kiss (yes I'm counting in kiss, cause what you would find when watching the sequel '28 Weeks Later' is that it can be passed though saliva. As seen when a desperate husband, played by Robert Carlyle, kisses his rescued wife who happens to have the virus lying dormant inside of her. She being a very worn host to the infection but still managing, barely, to control her mind over the raging virus inside her.) Once infected the reaction is immediate and permanent, it might be you're brother or sister maybe even your oldest friend but it makes no difference once hounded by the infected you better do a hell load more than scream!!!

28 Days Later..hammered down the rage in a brutal post-apocalyptic manner.
We watch as Jim walks aimlessly within a deserted London, shouting loudly across the abandoned cars and toppled double Decker buses, hoping for someone to answer his call. But now as we pace into the first five minutes, following slowly behind Jim as he enters a dark groggy building. With walls marked and screwed in writing, echos bounce off the high buildings four corners as he steps into a new world. When he sets his eyes upon the bloody scatted bodies below him this new world opens up to him. A world screaming with gore and seething with blood thirsty cannibalistic Infection.

What scares me about this film, why it leaves me having several small strokes...?
Because this really could happen!

It's a really strong paranoia to have on life i know but biological warfare is now becoming part of our lives, left and right, no matter where you go. Yes people being more awake than ever to the dangers of disease is growing fast, we shouldn't be worrying about terrorism, we should be worrying about what we can do to ourselves.
It isn't a case of if, but when. People tend to be ignorant when it comes to a virus of some sort, but the fact remains, we cant heal everything, there's isn't always a cure. With this information that he had gatherd it's just like the man Boyle to trot along and scare the living shit out of us!
